How to Display or adjust Closed Captions/Subtitles

    Subtitles are transcriptions of the audio portion of content displayed on the TV screen. They include sound effects and scenic narration. Whether all non-speech elements are displayed depends on the content.

    Display subtitles on the TV screen

    The Subtitle feature can be enabled with the remote control using either of the following methods:

    • Press the MENU button to access the Control Menu, then select the CC/Subtitle option.
    • Press the SUBTITLE (CC) button.

    This feature is available on TV broadcasts and apps, such as Google Play Movies & TV. Subtitles may not be available for some TV broadcasts or apps. Contact the broadcaster or owner of the app for more information regarding their broadcast content.

    Apps

    Whether a given app supports the subtitle feature depends on the app. As of February 2020, Google Play Movies & TV supports the subtitle feature. Also, some apps enable Subtitles using the settings menu within their app. Some of these third-party Closed Caption apps can also change text size and color.

    TV broadcasts

    Two types of subtitles might be available, depending on the TV program.
    Press the SUBTITLE (CC) or MENU button on the TV remote control to select either Basic or For hard of hearing.

    • Basic: Subtitles only display the audio portion of the content.
    • For hard of hearing: Subtitles display audio portion and non-speech elements of the content, such as door knocking sound.
