Sony is offering a firmware update for Digital Still Camera (DSC-RX100M3).
Improvements:
- Improve operation with Underwater Housing (MPK-URX100A)
- Added “Underwater Auto” in White Balance settings.
- Added “Flash Off” mode when Flash unit is popped-up.
- Improve overall stability of the camera.
Benefits provided from previous updates includes:
- This update improves the time to power ON the device, after downloading the application "Smart Remote Control" of the "PlayMemories Camera Apps".
This page provides instructions on how to update the system software for Digital Still Camera DSC-RX100M3 to version 2.00.
Follow the instruction below to check the system software version. If the system software version is version 2.00, the update is not required.
How to check the system software version
- Select Menu > Setup > 6 > Version on the camera.

Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-BX1. Note: The upgrade can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery. - USB support cable supplied with the camera
Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.

Important Notes:
- When performing the system software update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-BX1.
- Do not remove the battery or AC adaptor during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
- Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
- Prevent your computer from sleep mode beforehand.
- Do not be connected to other apparatuses except your computer.
- Start Firmware Updater
Download the file to your computer. Please save the downloaded file onto the Desktop of your computer (recommended).
For Windows 10/Windows 8/Windows 8.1 users:
Under the initial settings of Internet Explorer, the update file will be saved in the Downloads folder. Click the Desktop tile from the Start screen and find the downloaded file in the Downloads folder by using Explorer. - Start up System Software Updater
Close all currently running programs on your computer, then double click
Update_DSCRX100M3V200.exe to start up Firmware Updater.
- Check the USB connection mode
- Turn on the camera.
- According to the System Software Updater instructions, select Menu > Setup > 3 > USB Connect Setting on the camera, then check if Mass Storage is selected. If a mode other than Mass Storage is selected, select Mass Storage.
- Connect the camera to the computer
Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable. USB Mode appears on the LCD monitor of the camera.
If the computer cannot find the camera, the message "Could not find the camera for this update." appears on the computer display. Try the following if this happens.- Disconnect the USB cable and connect it again.
- If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try with the other terminals.
Sometimes when the camera is connected to the computer with the USB cable, the message to encourage rebooting the computer may appear on the computer display. In this case, remove the battery pack or AC adaptor from the camera, reboot the computer, and follow the procedures from Start up System Software Updater. - Check if the update is required
- After confirming the LCD monitor of the camera, click Next. The current version and the version after the upgrade appear on the below screen.
Upgrade is required
- Note: If the below screen appears, the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, re-insert the battery pack or connect the AC adaptor, and then turn on the camera again.

- After confirming the LCD monitor of the camera, click Next. The current version and the version after the upgrade appear on the below screen.
- The camera automatically reset
The following screen appears.
- Start the update
After automatically resetting, the below screen appears and the update starts.The progress bar appears while updating (approximately 15 minutes).
Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while upgrading. - Complete the update
When the update is completed, the camera will automatically restart. Make sure the camera is turned on and wait until the LCD screen appears again. Click Finish when the LCD screen appears and disconnect the USB cable.
- If recovering data caution is displayed after restarting, please wait until this caution goes out. There are no abnormalities.
- Check the System Software version
Follow the instruction to confirm the System Software version is Ver. 2.00.
- Select Menu > Setup > 6 > Version on the camera.
- The system software version is displayed.
- Select Menu > Setup > 6 > Version on the camera.
